Domiciliary Care Worker Job Description
Role Purpose
A Domiciliary Care Worker provides high-quality care and support to individuals in their own homes, enabling them to maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life. The role involves assisting with personal care, daily living activities, emotional wellbeing, and social inclusion while promoting choice and independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide person-centred care tailored to individual needs and preferences.
- Assist with personal care, including washing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Support individuals with mobility and safe movement around their home.
- Assist with meal preparation, nutrition, and hydration.
- Support with medication administration or prompting in accordance with care plans and policies.
- Help with household tasks such as light cleaning, laundry, and shopping.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to reduce isolation and promote wellbeing.
- Accompany individuals to appointments, social activities, or community events when required.
- Observe and report changes in an individual’s physical, emotional, or mental wellbeing.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of care provided.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, infection control, and confidentiality procedures.
- Work collaboratively with families, healthcare professionals, and other support services.

- Understanding of dementia care, learning disabilities, mental health, or complex care needs.
- Care Certificate or NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care, or willingness to work towards.
- Medication administration training.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, where required.
